Doncaster is on a busy main line, but not one that goes to Rugby. Every journey we found changed at least twice, usually at Sheffield first. The best combination, Sheffield then Tamworth, takes just over two hours; the worst options take nearly three.

Both planners route you onto the M18 and then south on the M1. Where they differ is the exit: one takes the A426 into Rugby, the other continues to Junction 18 and follows the A428. Their distances came out at 91 and 97 miles.

At the hotel there is a yard with six guest spaces behind the building, used in order of arrival and watched by CCTV. Railway Terrace itself is free for parking overnight.

When a room in Rugby makes sense

With more than four hours of travelling in a round trip, visitors from Doncaster generally stay at least one night. Typical reasons include contract work in the Rugby area, a move to Warwickshire or events at Rugby School.
