Change at Sheffield, not Doncaster

We looked at Tuesday 15 September 2026. The 08:28 from Hull reached Sheffield at 09:49, left again at 09:56 for Tamworth and connected there with the 10:56 to Rugby, arriving at 11:26. Eight minutes after it, the 08:36 heads for Doncaster instead, and the planner’s options from that train reached Rugby at 12:26 and 12:45.

Leaves Hull Changes Arrives Rugby Journey
08:28 Sheffield, Tamworth 11:26 2 h 58 min
08:36 Doncaster, Derby, Tamworth 12:26 3 h 50 min
09:26 Sheffield, Birmingham New Street 12:55 3 h 29 min
10:25 Sheffield, Tamworth 13:26 3 h 1 min
17:25 Sheffield, Birmingham New Street 20:55 3 h 30 min
18:25 Sheffield, Tamworth 21:26 3 h 1 min
19:25 Sheffield, Tamworth 22:26 3 h 1 min

The Doncaster route loses time on the platform. The 08:36 reaches Doncaster at 09:26, and its connection doesn’t leave until 09:59, a 33-minute wait before two more changes. On the 08:28 via Sheffield, the two connections are seven and eight minutes.

Short connections at Sheffield and Tamworth mean one late train can push you onto a much slower journey. After the 19:25, the next departure we found didn’t reach Rugby until the following morning.

Humber Bridge or M62: two roads out of Hull

The route planners disagreed here. OSRM crossed the Humber Bridge on the A15 and went through Lincolnshire on the M180 and A46 before joining the M1; Valhalla stayed north of the estuary on the M62, then took the M18 and M1. Their totals were 18 miles apart, so we don’t quote a driving distance: in a straight line, Hull is about 102 miles from Rugby.

Once you’re here, there are six free on-site spaces, allocated in arrival order and covered by CCTV; street parking on Railway Terrace is free from 18:00 to 08:00.

Three hours each way calls for a night or more

A six-hour round trip leaves little of the day for whatever brought you to Rugby. A stay makes more sense for a job or a family occasion lasting several days; see our pages for contractors working in Rugby and families moving to the area.
