A steady two hours forty, via London

Almost every Colchester departure on the timetable for Tuesday 15 September 2026 took between 2 hours 40 and 2 hours 44 minutes. Trains run into Liverpool Street, you cross to Euston on the Underground, and the Rugby train takes it from there. The times barely changed between morning and evening.

Driving: M25 or A14?

Both route planners we used leave Colchester on the A12 and A120 towards the M11. After that they part company. One heads north-west across country on the A14 and joins the M6 near Rugby; the other goes south round the M25 and up the M1. Their totals differed by about ten miles, so we give the straight-line figure instead of a road distance.

Six guest spaces are available behind our building, allocated on arrival, with CCTV. If you get in late and they’re full, Railway Terrace is free to park on until 08:00.

Reasons to stay rather than go back

Five hours or more of travel in a day is too much for most visits. Guests coming from this far usually book for something specific: time at Rugby School, a graduation at Warwick or Coventry, or a move to the area.

Our 16 rooms on Railway Terrace each come with a kitchenette. There is a guest laundry, free of charge, on the first floor, and stays of seven nights or longer include weekly cleaning. Details and photos are on our rooms page, with house rules in the guest guide and hotel policies.
