Which 15-past train you catch matters

On the timetable for Tuesday 15 September 2026, Leeds had a train at 15 minutes past most hours with a Rugby connection, but they did not all go the same way. In the morning they alternated: the 08:15 and 10:15 changed at Birmingham New Street, while the 09:15 and 11:15 changed at Tamworth and arrived half an hour sooner.

Leaves Leeds Change at Arrives Rugby Journey
08:15 Birmingham New Street 10:55 2 h 40 min
09:15 Tamworth 11:26 2 h 11 min
09:45 Manchester Piccadilly 12:33 2 h 48 min
18:15 Birmingham New Street 20:55 2 h 40 min
19:15 Tamworth 21:26 2 h 11 min
20:15 Tamworth 22:26 2 h 11 min
20:45 Manchester Piccadilly 23:38 2 h 53 min

Setting off an hour later can mean arriving only half an hour later. The 08:15 via Birmingham reaches Rugby at 10:55; the 09:15 via Tamworth is there at 11:26. At Tamworth the connection is eight minutes, from 10:48 to 10:56.

We found nothing later than the 20:45 that reached Rugby the same night. Connections on long cross-country journeys are worth checking on National Rail Enquiries on the day.

Driving from Leeds

Both route planners take the M621 out of Leeds onto the M1 and head south. One leaves the motorway for the A426; the other stays on to Junction 18 and uses the A428. That choice accounts for most of the gap between their totals, 115 and 123 miles.

Parking in Rugby is simple once you arrive: six places in our yard, in arrival order and covered by CCTV, and free on-street parking on Railway Terrace from 18:00 until the next morning.
